Most of us learned to read early, which can feel like a given. You learned how to read, and now you can read all the time and everywhere without even noticing (street signs, menus at restaurants, articles on your phone)!
Tomorrow I’m speaking to the wonderful Iowa Literacy Council about the Ripple Effect that they ARE making and will continue to make in the lives of people learning to read.
As I prepared for this event, it made me think a lot about the gift of reading
.

Simple as that!
Yet for those coming from a different country, reading is a huge part of the assimilation process. I can only imagine navigating paperwork and everyday life without being able to read.
Reading allows us to do SO much.
So you can say I am a bit excited about Iowa Literacy Council’s Ripple Effect, and I’m honored to serve them in this capacity!
As I prepare to speak, think about the gift of reading today, and let’s have fun with it: share the best thing you read today! and… GO!
