The Non- Traditional Path to Becoming an Author

Ever thought about writing a book?

Yeah, me neither.

I never saw myself as an author, or even dreamed that one day, someone would tell me in the produce aisle of my local grocery store, “I bought your book!”, but here we are!

If you are in the same boat as me (the one where you want to make ripples and waves of impact), but are scared silly of putting yourself, let alone a book, out into the world, I want you to consider this:

Your thoughts and perspective might change one person’s life for the better. And if one person benefits, you are Having Good Ripple Effect.

Sure, doing scary things takes a bit of courage and thick skin, but it might be easier than you think.

I talk more about my journey in this podcast episode, but here are the highlights of how I convinced myself to go for it:

Addressed the doubt – someone needs to hear this message! And if a hater pops up, make a plan in advance of what to say. This is what I planned to say to anyone who thought my book was rubbish. In a sincerely nice tone, I would say this, “I am doing hard things, what are you doing to grow and challenge yourself?”

Captured my ideas – lots and lots of Post-it notes!

Organized my thoughts – I ended up not writing the book, but rather speaking it. Listen to learn more!

Emraced the messy – I did things out of order, I struggled to get it right, and I realized there were so many more things I would change, but that’s how the creative process works. Plus, I can always create another book to “get it more right” next time.

Kept going! – I just did one more thing and one more thing and one more thing until it was done.
