Hey there,
The other day I walked around with coffee on my shirt…(face palm).
You ever look back on something that felt like a total failure at the time… and realize it was actually a key ingredient in your success? Yeah, me too. Failure has a funny way of showing up as an uninvited guest—annoying in the moment, but often exactly what we needed to learn, pivot, or grow.
Leadership: The Secret Sauce of Success
“A failure is the condiment that gives success its flavor.”
When I first read this quote, I laughed—because honestly, isn’t it the truth? Over the past five years, I’ve had more failures than I can count. Some were small—like a typo in a PowerPoint or my website. Others felt bigger—like a story that didn’t land or a pitch that fizzled out.
But here’s the thing: every one of those moments added a little more “flavor” to my journey—and made me even hungrier for success. When a keynote hits just right, when a pitch turns into an opportunity, those wins are even sweeter because of the missteps that came before them.
If you’re in a season where things feel stuck, remember: success is just a series of steppingstones, and failure is part of the process. Keep going. Keep seasoning. The best flavors take time.
Life: A Recipe for Perspective
Imagine eating the same bland meal every single day—no seasoning, no variety, just the same thing on repeat. Sounds awful, right? But that’s kind of what life would be like if everything worked out perfectly on the first try.
Failure is the unexpected spice, the unexpected detour that leads to a better recipe. So, instead of seeing setbacks as something to avoid, what if we treated them like seasoning—adding depth, perspective, and (eventually) a richer experience?
So, here’s my challenge for you: think of one “failure” that taught you something valuable. How did it shape the way you do things today? And most importantly, how can you use it to fuel your next success?
Out there happening to the world,
Lisa
