A quick laugh before getting right back to it!
Our trip to St. Louis was a success! We enjoyed great food, local attractions (City Museum, the Arch, Union Station to name a few), but when I asked the kids about their top two most surprising moments of the trip, one I expected and the other I didn’t.
Disclaimer – as unfortunate as this was, our kids learned a lot about expecting the unexpected, being flexible, and how to laugh at things that are out of our control. I am sure they won’t forget this trip!
Most surprising moment for everyone:
The Airbnb we were staying in downtown, was a neat old warehouse with tall windows and concrete floors. On Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, we woke up to an inch of water on the floor. From what we know, a water pipe burst down the hall (we were on the 9th floor), and water was seeping in through our front door. Thankfully we woke up just in time to get our belongings to higher ground, and within a few hours had a new Airbnb booked, some coffee, and a new pair of shoes for my husband!

The other surprising moment:
On Thanksgiving, the day before the flood, we ate breakfast and headed to the St. Louis Zoo. Highly recommend this to anyone heading to St. Louis, as it is free and lots of animals to see (penguins, elephants, and giraffe were some of our favorites). We knew that the zoo wouldn’t be an entire day activity due to some light rain and slightly chilly temps, but after a quick google search, we found a $5 movie playing at a local theater.
As we walked into the theater building, we were greeted by the most beautiful display of Christmas trees that we have ever seen indoors! Though we only stayed in this hallway for a few minutes, we all agreed it was the best “other surprise” of our adventure. We talked about how some of the best surprises are the ones that we least expect.
I hope you had a weekend full of JOY and hopefully less water on the floor than we did (not the ripple effect I was expecting, ha!).
Cheers to a new week and the unexpected surprises up ahead!
