What struck me most from this group of students, was their willingness to take direction, energy towards creating a good output, and also the fun and interesting ideas they came up with.
So much hope!
In my ops career (while leading big teams), I held to the belief that, if you set the bar, they will meet it. That meant I always needed to genuinely believe in each person and be available for questions, but more often than not, my team would go above and beyond.
This past semester, I have been working with four local high school students on a project, and I tell you what…They not only met the bar, but they also raised it!
Each student signed up to assist in a specific role for the Student Rising Tides Connection Conference. I met with each one to scope out our plan and create a list of tasks. I know, in the back of their minds, they were fascinated by the concept of bringing a “connection conference” to their school, but really had no idea what to expect, flexibility at its finest!
This is how the work broke down:
Audrey / Mya – Focused on social media posts leading up to the event and also were in charge of creating a photography / videography “shot list” that would guide our student photographer and videographer day of. We wanted to make sure we captured a variety of shots with a mix of people!
Raina – Was our student photographer for the event and the pictures on this post are from her! She had business cards printed up prior to the day, and was camera ready throughout the event….she even instructed me on how and where to stand on a few shots! Sidenote: she takes senior pictures on the side, how cool!
Evie – Was our videography student. I loved that she caught all of the excitement of the day (video coming soon), and even set up a time lapse camera in the corner….she definitely had great ideas and is raising the bar.
What struck me most from this group of students, was their willingness to take direction, energy towards creating a good output, and also the fun and interesting ideas they came up with.
There is so much good that will come out of their generation, I can already tell. I am excited and hopeful to see what they do to change the world for the better!
