Holiday Joy Ideas - We are in This Together!

The holidays are here, bringing with them the hustle and bustle of coordinating schedules, meeting family traditions, and wrapping up work deadlines. It can get a bit overwhelming! But through it all, I’ve found it so helpful to remember to sneak in some joy (because, after all, Joy is My Job, yours too).

Sometimes, I laugh at how my kids couldn’t care less about extravagant gatherings, décor, or elaborate meals. Instead, they’re happiest playing Uno, jumping into a pile of leaves, or sharing a mug of hot cocoa – all things that really just need a bit of my time. These small moments remind me that the true spirit of the season isn’t about doing it all but about savoring what matters most (easier said than done, of course).

I’m feeling extra thankful this time of year and want to share a few simple holiday activities that bring joy to my family and friends. Maybe they’ll add a spark to your season too:

  • Holiday Game Night: Gather around with favorite games, whether it’s Uno, charades, or a classic board game. It’s a low-pressure way to connect, laugh, and maybe even get a little competitive! We’ve recently gotten into you tube video card tricks and the kids have loved showing off their skills.

  • Minute-to-Win-It Games: Get everyone up and moving with quick, fun challenges like stacking cups, balancing ornaments, or racing to unwrap candy with oven mitts. These mini competitions bring laughs and keep the energy high! These are also easy to sneak in before or after dinner.

  • Outdoor Adventure: Take a family walk or hike, then enjoy a hot cocoa break. Though, you or your kids might not be in the mood right away, getting some movement in is soul filling. Nature can be so grounding this time of year, and it’s the perfect backdrop for meaningful conversations (you’d be surprised how your kids, spouses, or friends open up when there aren’t screens or devices nearby).

  • Movie Marathon & Popcorn Bar: Set up a cozy night in with classic holiday movies and a DIY popcorn bar. Add some fun toppings like chocolate chips, marshmallows, or cinnamon to keep everyone entertained.

Whatever your traditions, remember that a fancy meal doesn’t always mean more joy. Wishing you a holiday season filled with the moments that matter most– and know I’m cheering you on through it all. We’re in it together!
